An original tale served as the basis for the 1991 American action/crime film New Jack City, which was written by Thomas Lee Wright and Barry Michael Cooper and was helmed by Mario Van Peebles in his feature film debut. Wesley Snipes plays Nino Brown, a rising drug kingpin in New York City during the crack epidemic, in the March 8, 1991[2] release. Following the movie, Payne was cast in a recurring role on “The Cosby Show” from 1990 to 1992. He subsequently moved on to movies like “Crossover,” “The Perfect Storm,” and “Vampire in Brooklyn.” In the TBS sitcom series “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” from 2006 to 2012, he also portrayed C.J. Payne, a dedicated husband and loving father. Before his recent involvement in the popular 2015 stage play “What Your Man Won’t Do,” Payne was rumored to have taken a break from performing.
