Stargate: Atlantis Cast – Then and Now by HollywoodNuts

Part of MGM’s Stargate franchise, Stargate Atlantis is an adventure and military science fiction television series that is typically stylised in all caps and frequently shortened as SGA. The program was developed by Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper as a spin-off of the Stargate SG-1 television series, which was developed by Wright and Jonathan Glassner and was based on the 1994 film Stargate.

The Sci-Fi Channel and The Movie Network both aired all five seasons of Stargate Atlantis in their respective countries. The program began airing on July 16, 2004, and on January 9, 2009, the last episode aired. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and the surrounding area were used to film the series.

The events of the seventh season finale episode “Lost City” and the eighth season opener episode “New Order” of Stargate SG-1, in which the cast of that show found an Antarctic stronghold built by the extraterrestrial race known as the Ancients, are continued in the plot of Stargate Atlantis. Dr. Daniel Jackson locates Atlantis, the fabled metropolis built by the Ancients, in the pilot episode “Rising,” and Stargate Command dispatches an international team to investigate it.

The Sci Fi Channel saw success with the series in the ratings; it was especially well-liked in Australia and Europe. Stargate Atlantis was recognized with multiple honors and award nominations during its five-season run, but receiving only moderate critical acclaim. Games, toys, print media, and an original audio series are among the Stargate Atlantis merchandise options. The planned direct-to-DVD Stargate Atlantis film, Stargate: Extinction, was canceled along with Stargate Universe.
